Va Tech Peebles Transformers (Leith)

EDM number 1568 in 2003-04, proposed by Mark Lazarowicz on 21/07/2004.

That this House expresses its concern at the announcement by VA Tech Peebles Transformers Ltd that it is considering the closure of its plant at Leith with a consequential loss of almost 250 jobs; notes that the plant at Leith is a new state-of-the-art facility with highly skilled and specialist employees; believes that the loss of this plant, which has successfully designed and built the world's largest power transformer units with customers in USA, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and the Middle East, would be a bitter blow to the manufacturing industry in Edinburgh, Scotland and the UK as a whole; urges the Austrian multi-national which is the parent company of VA Tech not to close the plant at Leith; welcomes the campaign by Amicus to retain the plant; and urges the UK Government, the Scottish Executive, Edinburgh City Council, and Scottish Enterprise to back the efforts to ensure the retention of this important manufacturing facility in this country.

This motion has been signed by a total of 46 MPs.
