Sky Sports Subscription Price Rises For Pubs And Clubs
EDM number 1567 in 2003-04, proposed by Martyn Jones on 21/07/2004.
That this House again expresses its concern that BSkyB is to increase further its charges for its Sky Sports basic package and Premiership Plus Season Ticket football package service for pubs and clubs; recognises that the latest price rise follows an increase of 22 per cent. in July 2003 and occurs in the wake of the company's announcement of an increase in operating profits of 770 per cent.; notes that licensees are charged for the pay-per-view package according to the rateable value of their pub, and in some instances could lead to a rise of more than 400 per cent. in subscription costs; expresses its disappointment that the Office of Fair Trading refused to formally re-open its investigation into BSkyB's pricing structure despite acknowledging that the company's prices were high; and calls on BSkyB to open immediate consultation with licence trade organisations on future pricing for its service.
