Home Birth Services
EDM number 1550 in 2003-04, proposed by HELEN CLARK on 20/07/2004.
That this House wishes to express its concern at the suspension of home birth services by the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the consequent lack of care available to local women wishing to have a home birth, which was only drawn to the public's attention by the suspension of a midwife who honoured an undertaking to deliver a baby at home; regrets that the Trust has not given a firm date for the resumption of domiciliary deliveries; and believes that choice in healthcare, as outlined in recent Government policy, should not exclude home confinements and that, even in these days of high technology, mothers generally know what is best for themselves and their babies.
