Maximum Working Temperature
EDM number 1521 in 2003-04, proposed by Jane Griffiths on 15/07/2004.
That this House welcomes the talks that were taking place between the General Federation of Trade Union (GFTU) Health and Safety Group and the Health and Safety Executive on setting a maximum working temperature; notes that there has been a minimum working temperature that has worked well for decades raising no great problems to employers; further notes that unions representing musicians, bakers, steel workers, probation officers and stage workers amongst others who all have to face excessive heat causing problems in their work all year round continue to call for a maximum working temperature; further notes that pigs and cows being transported have a maximum temperature but workers do not; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and the Health and Safety Executive immediately to resume talks with the GFTU Health and Safety Group with a view to introducing legislation this parliamentary session to set a maximum working temperature.
