Reduction In Homelessness
EDM number 1502 in 2003-04, proposed by Paul Flynn on 13/07/2004.
That this House congratulates the Rough Sleepers Unit on its brilliant success in reducing the numbers of rough sleepers from 1998 to 2003 from 1,229 to 237 in Greater London and from 1,850 to 504 in England; recognises that few of the remaining rough sleepers lack shelter but have problems of alcohol or drug addiction, mental ill-health or the effects of institutionalisation in the armed services, prisons or care homes; regrets the failure of certain homeless charities to acknowledge this success; and believes that their attempts to expand the definition of homelessness serves only their self-interests.
