Jack Russell
EDM number 1460 in 2003-04, proposed by David Drew on 06/07/2004.
That this House notes the retirement from first class cricket of Jack Russell MBE after 23 years in the game; commends his brilliant service to England and outstanding achievements for Gloucestershire; records that his career spanned 465 first class matches, including 54 tests and 40 one day internationals, and that he took 1191 catches and made 128 stumpings; recalls that he did all he could to develop the fine arts of wicket-keeping; and believes that while he will be remembered primarily for his wicket-keeping, the many runs he made and the spectacular dismissals he took, he will also be remembered throughout the cricketing world for his quiet dignity and utter commitment to the game, particularly in the minds of the people of his home town of Stroud.
