British Transport Police
EDM number 1405 in 2003-04, proposed by HELEN CLARK on 24/06/2004.
That this House recognises the key role played by the British Transport Police in securing Britain's railway network from Inverness to Truro, from Liverpool to Hull and on the London Underground; and the need for sufficient officers who are adequately trained, properly equipped and rehearsed in promoting public safety and in dealing with the ongoing terrorist threat; is concerned that the present funding arrangements being based on a user pays principle, cause debt collection difficulties and serious under-funding; and urges the government to provide direct funding through the Department for Transport.
