MCDONALD'S AND FOOTBALL IN WALES

EDM number 1375 in 2003-04, proposed by Simon Thomas on 22/06/2004.

That this House notes that on 28th April, McDonald's posted a 56 per cent, rise in first quarter profits, representing an earned income of $511 million; notes that these profits have just been swelled by an additional ú20,000 from the National Assembly Government under its Sportsmatch Cymru awards; is appalled that a company responsible for unhealthy food is being rewarded by taxpayers' money for its use of football training in primary schools to promote its own name and products; further notes the emphasis of both the National Assembly and United Kingdom governments on tackling obesity in children does not believe that a game of football outweighs the damage of salty, fatty, fast foods; and urges the Sports Council for Wales and the National Assembly Government to withdraw its offer of subsidising McDonald's attempts to ingratiate itself with schools, children and parents.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
