Treat Me Right Campaign
EDM number 1367 in 2003-04, proposed by Tom Clarke on 17/06/2004.
That this House expresses concern that people with a learning disability do not have the same access to good quality healthcare as non-disabled people, but have greater health needs and, as a consequence, have poorer health and shorter lives; welcomes the launch of Mencap's Treat Me Right! campaign which demands a better deal for all people with a learning disability using healthcare services; calls on everyone within the health service to recognise that people with a learning disability have an equal right to high quality health services; and urges Her Majesty's Government and the NHS to implement the recommendations of the Treat Me Right! report, including annual checks for people with a learning disability, appropriate disability equality training for all healthcare professionals, and full compliance by the NHS with both the Disability Discrimination Act and its legal duty of care to all patients including those with a learning disability.
