Post Office Closures(3)
EDM number 1362 in 2003-04, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 16/06/2004.
That this House expresses its opposition to the closure of post offices throughout the United Kingdom; expresses its dismay at the appalling way in which the consultation process was handled, the inability of the Royal Mail to respond to stakeholders and public representatives, the lack of transparency and information provided during the consultation process; highlights the closure of Moor Road Post Office in Chorley as a prime example of this where the decision has been taken on the basis that bus routes exist for local residents to travel to the neighbouring post office where they do not, and that the journey to the neighbouring post office is flat, which it is not; further points to the Royal Mail's inability to respond to calls from the honourable Member's office and Borough Council; and calls on senior managers of the Royal Mail to review their own positions in light of these events and for the Government to use its influence as the major shareholder in face of this unacceptable practice to review the decision made by the Royal Mail and ensure that an open and transparent consultation is undertaken.
