Lamb Crop Cull
EDM number 1361 in 2003-04, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 16/06/2004.
That this House notes that Government contingency plans for BSE in sheep include the slaughter of the entire lamb crop in the worst case scenario should one case of BSE be found in sheep; expresses concern at the way in which Government officials have presented the consultation on the contingency plan to those in the sheep industry; recognises the need to ensure that BSE is not transferred to sheep and that all measures are taken to tackle this problem; but calls on the Government to ensure that millions of healthy lambs are not culled unnecessarily and the loss of stock is kept to a minimum and ensure that clear dialogue takes place between Government officials, the National Sheep Association and other interested parties.
