Protection Of Employees In Companies Declared Insolvent
EDM number 1316 in 2003-04, proposed by Gwyn Prosser on 07/06/2004.
That this House supports the efforts of employees and former employees of companies like Endeva and UEF who have suffered from the heavy-handed and shabby attitude of the administrator whose stark powers in dealing with insolvency ignores the needs and proper protection of workers; notes that the powers given to administrators in such circumstances appear absolute and are exercised ruthlessly without infringing the law; is appalled to witness the experiences of some of Endeva's employees who, with over 30 years exemplary service were arbitrarily sacked without notice and without proper compensation; and supports the Amicus campaign which is seeking a comprehensive review of the insolvency laws to ensure that administrators work under a wider and fairer remit which takes greater account of the needs and dignity of employees and the long-term viability of the operation that they work in.
