London Olympic Bid(2)

EDM number 1257 in 2003-04, proposed by Simon Hughes on 24/05/2004.

That this House congratulates all those involved in the London Olympic bid on making the final shortlist; wishes to thank Barbara Cassani for her efforts to get London to the final stages of the bidding process and to give full backing to Sebastian Coe in his efforts to secure the games for 2012; expresses concern that the International Olympic Committee's assessment of London's bid has strongly criticised London's transport system as inadequate in capacity and safety; notes the Government's failure to make a firm decision on the vital Crossrail project or the East London Line extension; and calls on the Government to demonstrate its support for London's bid by publishing the 15-week overdue Montague report on Crossrail, hold urgent consultations with all interested parties and to announce before the end of July a start date for the building of these two crucial transport links for London, so that the necessary legislation can be brought to Parliament this year and both projects are clearly underway before the IOC evaluation visit to London in March 2005.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
