Implementation Of Photodynamic Therapy
EDM number 1217 in 2003-04, proposed by Tim Yeo on 18/05/2004.
That this House regrets the Government's decision to delay implementation of photodynamic therapy treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration from the end of December 2003 to the end of June 2004; notes that this delay has caused and is causing over 100 people on average per week to go blind; recognises that the Government's claim that the delay was in order to build up capacity has been contradicted by the Royal National Institute for the Blind, which knows of over 50 centres across the country which were in a position to treat NHS patients by the end of the normal three month implementation period; and extends its sympathy to those who have lost their sight due to the delay in availability of this treatment.
