Unfairness And Racial Discrimination In Employment
EDM number 1193 in 2003-04, proposed by Harry Cohen on 13/05/2004.
That this House notes that in many areas of the UK, including in London, the difference in the percentage of the white and the non-white population of working age in employment is exceptionally high; further notes that the recent TUC report Black and Underpaid highlighted a pay gap, saying that on average black men earn ú97 per week less than white men; considers that, although the Government placed duties on public authorities to promote equality of opportunity and eliminate unlawful racial discrimination and introduced a limited ethnic minority outreach initiative in a handful of areas, that nowhere near enough has been done; and calls on the Government to come forward with new measures to tackle this gross unfairness and racial discrimination in employment.
This motion has been signed by a total of 46 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
