Modern Treatment Of Lung Cancer
EDM number 1188 in 2003-04, proposed by Ian Gibson on 13/05/2004.
That this House congratulates the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, the British Lung Foundation, CancerBACUP, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Relief for coming together to launch a call for increased provision of vital equipment for the treatment of people living with lung cancer; notes that positron emission tomography (PET) scanners can save patients from potentially unnecessary and costly surgery; regrets that there are currently only five scanners in the NHS used for routine clinical assessments, all situated in London, compared with over 160 PET sites in the USA and over 120 sites in Europe (80 in Germany); believes that people living with lung cancer deserve the best treatment available; and calls on the Government to produce at the earliest opportunity its long-heralded framework on NHS PET scanning provision and to state clearly how it is to be implemented in a way that provides equity of access.
