Northern Ireland Veterans Association And The Remembrance Day Parade

EDM number 1184 in 2003-04, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 13/05/2004.

That this House commends the Northern Ireland Veterans Association (NIVA) for embracing within its membership not only former military personnel but also others who put their lives at risk in the service of the Crown in Northern Ireland, such as former members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary, the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Prison Service; regrets therefore that the Royal British Legion has deemed that this inclusion of members of non-military uniformed organisations in its membership disqualified NIVA from permission to take part in the name of NIVA in the Remembrance Day parade at the Cenotaph; and urges the Royal British Legion to recognise the appropriateness of NIVA's membership policy given the exceptional circumstances of service in Northern Ireland to allow representatives of NIVA to take part in the march past in this year's Remembrance Day Parade.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
