Distribution Of N.h.s Research Funds
EDM number 1149 in 2003-04, proposed by Graham Stringer on 10/05/2004.
That this House notes with extreme concern the article by John Hacking of the Manchester Joint Health Unit in the Health Service Journal on 1st April, which exposes the unfair distribution of the ú1.5 billion pool of charity and public money available each year for medical research in England; further notes that two-thirds of this money goes to the so called Golden Triangle of London, Cambridge and Oxford; and recognises that this inequitable funding contributes directly to regional health and economic disparities.
