Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day 21st May 2004
EDM number 1144 in 2003-04, proposed by Anne Begg on 06/05/2004.
That this House supports the Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day; notes that when the spinal cord sustains an injury, messages of sensation are interrupted and the extent of paralysis depends on the point of damage to the spinal cord; further notes that spinal cord injury can occur in a number of different ways, the most common causes being road traffic accidents, diving accidents and sports injuries as well as viral infections and viruses, cysts and growths on the spinal cord; agrees that policy must promote the integration and full participation in society of people with spinal injuries; and calls on the Government to ensure this receives due attention.
