BBC Charter Obligations In Northern Ireland
EDM number 1113 in 2003-04, proposed by Andrew Mackinlay on 04/05/2004.
That this House expresses concern that the report of the independent Electoral Commission into the Northern Ireland Assembly elections shows unfairness by the BBC in the number of references it made to the Alliance Party on BBC Newsline over the Assembly election period; notes the lack of coverage devoted to female candidates and discrimination in relation to smaller parties; reminds the Governors of their charter obligations; and considers that there is in any event an urgent need for the Governors to review the extent and nature of parliamentary and political coverage in respect of BBC Northern Ireland's domestic news and current affairs.
