Development Of Microbicides

That this House notes the International Conference on Microbicides which took place in London in March; welcomes research and progress into this new tool for preventing the spread of HIV; further notes work by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine which shows that millions of lives could be saved worldwide by the introduction of a microbicide; is aware of the leading role played by our medical research institutions in developing a microbicide; urges pharmaceutical companies to more actively engage in this vital area; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to continue to commit sufficient public funds to ensure the timely development and distribution of an effective microbicide.
