Inverclyde Council And The Honourable Member For Greenock & Inverclyde

EDM number 1096 in 2003-04, proposed by John Thurso on 29/04/2004.

That this House congratulates Inverclyde Council for taking effective steps to stabilise the serious financial problems inherited from the previous Labour administration, for adopting a radical programme of school building and refurbishment to be funded by a mix of prudential borrowing, capital receipts and funding from a public private partnership on an not-for-profit distributing organisation basis, and for its policies of environmental improvement and support for local cultural bodies and activities; welcomes its initiative in setting up the Inverclyde Alliance as a vehicle for community planning, and its programme for economic renewal in partnership with other public agencies and with private enterprise; and expresses disappointment that the honourable Member for Greenock and Inverclyde has failed to accept invitations to discuss local problems and policies with the Council, while at the same time intruding on what are the normal preserves of the Council and the Scottish Parliament.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
