Flexibility Of Speed Camera Location Criteria
EDM number 1087 in 2003-04, proposed by Mark Tami on 29/04/2004.
That this House welcomes efforts to reduce road accidents through traffic speed enforcement; notes the progress being made by local authorities and police forces in meeting the Government's target of a 40 per cent. reduction in casualties on UK roads by 2010; further notes the criteria must be met for the placement of fixed and mobile speed cameras; and calls for greater flexibility on this criteria in order to give additional discretion to speed enforcement agencies, so that preventative measures may be taken on roads that are known to be dangerous but which have not yet witnessed sufficient casualties to qualify them for a speed camera.
