Locally-Grown Produce
EDM number 1038 in 2003-04, proposed by John Grogan on 22/04/2004.
That this House believes that locally-grown produce from British farms offers excellent, high-quality food; congratulates the Yorkshire Post on its new 'Raised in Yorkshire' campaign to persuade more people, businesses and organisations, including schools and hospitals, to buy food produced locally; believes that that would give children a healthier diet as well as help to maintain a sustainable and economically-viable countryside; notes that only two per cent. of food currently bought by the public sector is produced in the regions where it is consumed; and therefore calls on the Government to do everything it can to increase that proportion dramatically.
