East London Line Extension
EDM number 1029 in 2003-04, proposed by Simon Hughes on 21/04/2004.
That this House is concerned at continuing delays in the construction of the East London Line extensions; notes that more than ú40 million has been spent on planning, design, initial works and fighting legal challenges to the project; further notes that the extensions could be completed by 2010, providing an important addition to London's transport networks in time for a London Olympics in 2012; further notes that one million people could benefit from the ú10 billion worth of regeneration which the extensions would boost; further notes that the project is awaiting approval on its funding package from the Government; and expresses hope that the Government will grant this approval as soon as possible.
