St George

EDM number 1025 in 2003-04, proposed by Ken Purchase on 21/04/2004.

That this House notes that the legend of St. George and the dragon records that many working class people were sacrificed to appease the dragon and that it was only when a Royal person was to be sacrificed that St. George decided to act; congratulates the Wolverhampton Express and Star columnist Roy Williams for exposing St George's divided loyalties as a patron saint in Beirut, Catalonia, Lithuania, Malta, Palestine and Portugal and many other countries as well as England; and calls for the replacement of St. George by a national hero dedicated to a classless, secular England.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
