Proposed Service Cuts To North Kent Stations

EDM number 1019 in 2003-04, proposed by Howard Stoate on 21/04/2004.

That this House expresses its deep concern at the proposals of the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) to cut services to stations in North Kent following the introduction of the integrated Kent Franchise in 2007 and urges the SRA to reconsider its plans; notes that the proposed reduction in morning peak services to London from Farningham Road from seven services to two services will severely inconvenience hundred of local residents who work and study in London; notes that the proposed cuts to services to London from Stone Crossing, Greenhithe and Swanscombe will coincide with a period of rapid housing growth in Kent Thameside and will completely undermine the drive by the Government, Dartford Borough Council, Kent County Council and its partners for sustainable development in the area; and further notes that the proposal to stop off-peak services from Dartford to Erith, Charlton and Greenwich will make it impossible for Greenwich University students living in Dartford to get to the University and for Charlton Athletic supporters from Dartford to get to the Valley and for residents in North Bexley to get to Dartford market by rail during the off-peak period.
