Speed Cameras
EDM number 981 in 2002-03, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 27/03/2003.
That this House notes the important role that speed cameras play in reducing the speed of traffic and improving road safety; expresses concern at demands to replace high visibility cameras on our roads with more obscure cameras given that the prime purpose of the camera is to slow traffic down as opposed to catch speeding motorists in order to raise revenue; further notes recent studies show that automated electronic signs warning speeding drivers to slow down are more effective than speed cameras in improving road safety; and calls on the Government to ensure that all speed cameras are well signed and highly visible in addition to extending automated warning signs so that accidents caused through speeding are reduced.
