Measures To Increase The Number Of New UK Films Shown On UK Television
EDM number 956 in 2002-03, proposed by Parmjit Dhanda on 26/03/2003.
That this House believes that a flourishing film industry is an essential part of national culture; notes the UK film industry's track record of producing extremely talented individuals and outstanding films; further notes with concern that fewer than three in every 100 feature films currently shown on the main five free television channels are UK films made in the last five years; welcomes the inclusion in the Communications Bill of feature film in the subjects to be considered by OFCOM when assessing the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5's compliance with their public service remits; and expects OFCOM, following consultation with broadcasters, the UK Film Council and the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television, to act to improve the representation of new, high quality, UK made films on those channels.
