British Trade Unionists And The Euro
EDM number 916 in 2002-03, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 18/03/2003.
That this House notes with interest the recent opinion survey which found that 67 per cent. of GMB stewards responding were opposed to UK membership of the euro; further notes comments by another leading trade unionist that the euro would be a catalyst for 'an onslaught on workers' rights'; recalls the established position of Unison in opposition to Euro-membership; welcomes the opposition to euro membership of a number of other TUC affiliated trade unions; and concludes that the rising tide of scepticism about euro membership amongst British trade unionists indicates a growing awareness that the euro is not working.
