Regulation Of Fertility Clinics

EDM number 900 in 2002-03, proposed by Jim Dobbin on 17/03/2003.

That this House notes the recent High Court judgement arising out of the IVF mix up whereby the sperm of a black man was used to fertilise eggs of a white woman at Leeds General infirmary; further notes that this is merely the latest in a series of blunders at fertility clinics that are supposedly regulated by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority; expresses concern at the physical, emotional and psychological damage caused to women, their partners and their families by these blunders; believes that many other mistakes and blunders at fertility clinics regulated by the HFEA have gone undetected; and demands an urgent Government investigation into the work of the HFEA and in particular its regulation of fertility clinics.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
