Iraq Declarations And Dossiers
EDM number 888 in 2002-03, proposed by Paul Flynn on 13/03/2003.
That this House notes that the Prime Minister pointed out in his statement on Iraq on 3rd February that United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441 imposed on Saddam a duty to give 'a currently accurate, full and complete declaration of all aspects of its programmes to develop chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles and other delivery systems'; further notes in the same statement the Prime Minister informed Parliament that the Government had produced a dossier on Iraq making clear that 'there is a huge infrastructure of deception and concealment designed to prevent the inspectors from doing their jobs' in Iraq; further believes that the provenance of this dossier was not made clear although it accepts that well researched academic publications are legitimate sources of information; further notes that the allegations made by US Secretary of State Colin Powell to the United Nations Security Council on 5th February that a base of the terrorist organisation Ansar-al-Islam, located in the Kurdish enclave in northern Iraq, contains a chemicals and poisons factory, were proved to be wrong by subsequent visits by journalists; and calls upon all ministers to provide this House with accurate, up-to-date and relevant information on Iraq and terrorist threats, to permit honourable Members to make judgements on facts, not propaganda.
