UK Vetoes On The United Nations Security Council
EDM number 883 in 2002-03, proposed by George Galloway on 12/03/2003.
That this House notes that UK governments have exercised their right of veto on the UNSC 30 times since 1956; further notes that no fewer than 24 of those were cast in defence of apartheid South Africa and other white minority regimes in southern Africa and another was to block a condemnation of the shooting down of a civilian aircraft in Libya; and calls on the Government to provide guidance on what, in the light of this voting record, constitutes a reasonable use of the veto.
This motion has been signed by a total of 36 MPs.
