Tiredness Kills Signs
EDM number 868 in 2002-03, proposed by Bob Russell on 11/03/2003.
That this House notes with dismay that driver sleepiness accounts for as much as a fifth of crashes on motorways and monotonous roads, and around 10 per cent. of all crashes on the United Kingdom road network; welcomes as a positive measure as a means to reduce such crashes the erection of Tiredness Kills signs on approaches to service areas on motorways to remind drivers of the need for regular breaks; and calls on the Government to encourage the erection of Tiredness Kills signs at approaches to service areas on trunk roads as a further means to reduce the number of crashes, and consequent deaths and injuries, caused by driver fatigue.
