Mordechai Vanunu

EDM number 785 in 2002-03, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 26/02/2003.

That this House deplores the refusal by the Israeli authorities on 16th February to grant Dr Vanunu's most recent parole appeal at a time when there is a threat of war in the Middle East over the issue of Iraq possibly having weapons of mass destruction; wishes to commend the courage of Dr Vanunu for telling the truth about Israel's secret development and stock piling of at least 200 nuclear weapons, for which he was sentenced to 18 years in prison; notes with concern that as the Middle East crisis escalates, Dr Vanunu is kept in prison and Israel stores its nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction without inspection; and calls upon this House to recognise Dr Vanunu's revelations as the voice for peace and to call for his immediate release therein, concluding his 16 years of suffering in prison.

This motion has been signed by a total of 48 MPs.
