Omega-3 Fatty Acid

EDM number 772 in 2002-03, proposed by David Tredinnick on 25/02/2003.

That this House notes that unsaturated fats such as Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for life, but cannot be made in the body and must be obtained in the diet; further notes that these have been shown to be important for maintaining the good health of hearts, cells and nervous systems; observes that there is a very low incidence of heart disease amongst eskimos who have a huge amount in their diet from the fish they eat; recognises that the Omega-3 fatty acid is an essential nutrient for the health development of a babys brain, eyes, heart and blood vessels in the womb and during the first months of life; believes that Omega-3 can help to reduce pain and alleviate some of the symptons of arthritis; and urges the Government to undertake research in this area and encourage greater consumption of Omega-3.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
