Royal Humane Society
EDM number 743 in 2002-03, proposed by Alice Mahon on 13/02/2003.
That this House congratulates the Royal Humane Society on its contribution to society by publicly recognising those who go out of their way to help others, often by putting their own lives at risk; believes that the Society's medals and certificates, awarded according to the degree and duration of the risk taken, constitute a valuable way of saying thank you to public-spirited people whose actions might otherwise go unacknowledged; notes that the Society, which is a registered charity, has given more than 84,000 awards since its founding in 1774; and hopes that its excellent work will continue long into the future.
