Chinese Tigers
EDM number 673 in 2002-03, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 06/02/2003.
That this House notes the plight of Chinese tigers with estimates showing that there are only 90 such tigers left in the world, with the possibility that no Chinese tigers are alive in the wild after being threatened by hunters and deforestation; congratulates the London based, Save China's Tigers, charity on their excellent work involving a five year programme which aims at teaching tiger cubs, currently in zoos and parks, how to hunt and breed at a sanctuary in South Africa with the aim of returning them to the wild in China at the Lau Hu Valley Reserve where they will be protected from hunters and allowed to roam freely; and calls on the Government to continue its work with other countries to protect endangered species such as the Chinese tiger.
