Children Of Iraq

EDM number 672 in 2002-03, proposed by Harry Barnes on 05/02/2003.

That this House welcomes the campaign by Operation Desert Rescue to publicise the facts that a staggering 42 per cent. of the population of Iraq is under 15 years of age and that in May 2002 the United Kingdom and other governments pledged in a United Nations resolution to protect children from the horrors of armed conflict; calls upon the Prime Minister to announce how the United Kingdom intends to carry out the United Nations resolution before any further plans are made to make war on Iraq; urges the Prime Minister to press President Bush and the General Secretary of the United Nations to make statements on this issue; and applauds the church leaders, doctors, parliamentarians, academics, low-paid workers, mothers and many others who have registered their support for the campaign through their website www.desert-rescue,org,uk
