Chinese Execution Of Lobsang Dhondup And Further Persecution Of Tibetans
EDM number 670 in 2002-03, proposed by John Wilkinson on 05/02/2003.
That this House condemns the first case of a politically motivated execution of a Tibetan in more than a decade when 28 year old Tibetan Lobsang Dhondup was executed by Chinese authorities on Sunday 26th January in Sichuan Province; notes with dismay the confirmation of a two year suspended death sentence for respected Buddhist leader, Tenzin Deleg Rinpoche; believes this case raises serious doubts about the fairness of the trial procedure that inter alia relied on Lobsang Dhondup's confession, which may have been extracted under torture and which was later retracted; and is concerned that the supposed retrial was held in secret.
