Collection Of Fallen Livestock
EDM number 658 in 2002-03, proposed by Alan Meale on 05/02/2003.
That this House notes that from 1st May it will no longer be possible for farmers to dispose of fallen livestock by burial on farms, the traditional disposal route for livestock farmers; recognise that the new European Union Animal By-Products Regulation (1774-2002) will place significant extra costs onto the United Kingdom agricultural industry, whilst other European Union countries, notably France, have government schemes which fund collection and disposal of fallen stock as part of their public health programme; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to work with the agriculture sector to develop such a partnership for the benefit of public health and local environment.
