Taiwan And The World Health Organisation

EDM number 642 in 2002-03, proposed by Tom Cox on 03/02/2003.

That this House notes and supports the request of Taiwan to be granted observer status to the World Health Organisation; notes that this request is also supported by the Congress of the United States, the European Parliament, the World Medical Association and the British Medical Association; further notes that Taiwan has made substantial achievements in the field of health, and that in recent years it has extended humanitarian and medical assistance to many other parts of the world; also notes the commitment made by the Government and the people of Taiwan to work within the system of the World Health Organisation for the benefit of humanity; and requests that the World Health Organisation invites Taiwan to participate in the sessions and work of its forthcoming annual meeting in Geneva and other meetings of the World Health Organisation in the capacity of observer.
