DUNDEE REPERTORY THEATRE'S STAGING OF SHAKESPEARE IN IRAN
EDM number 621 in 2002-03, proposed by Iain Luke on 30/01/2003.
That this House congratulates Dundee Repertory Theatre and its performing company on its recent successful production of William Shakespeare's, A Winter's Tale, in Tehran and welcomes the support of these performances by the British Council in Iran; notes that this is the first performance of Shakespeare in Iran since 1971 and the first visit of a British drama touring company since 1978; further agrees that this excellent example of cultural exchange promoted and supported by the British Council should be encouraged and replicated throughout the Moslem world in an effort to build greater understanding, and allow peaceful dialogue between cultures in light of the current international tensions.
