Anniversary Of The 1953 Flood Catastrophe

That this House commemorates the 50th anniversary of the tragic floods that swept across the South East coast on 31st January 1953, causing terrible loss of life and devastation, including the tragic loss of 59 people on Canvey Island; pays its respects to all who lost their homes or were victims of the floods and to all who showed so much courage and fortitude that night rescuing people and animals; and urges the Government to review again the flood defences to ensure that effective protection is maintained in the face of rising sea levels.
