Closure Of Urban Sub-Post Offices In West Chelmsford
EDM number 592 in 2002-03, proposed by Simon Burns on 28/01/2003.
That this House deplores the decision by Post Office Ltd. to close four sub-post offices in Trent Road, Kings Road, Queens Road and Springfield Hill in the West Chelmsford Parliamentary constituency; is concerned that many constituents of the honourable Member for West Chelmsford, and especially pensioners and families without their own cars, will now have to travel at least more than a mile round trip to use post office facilities; urges the Government to prevent further blight on the post office network by strengthening the consultation process on the closure of post offices to ensure that decisions taken by Post Office Ltd. genuinely reflect the wishes of local people; and further urges the Government to invest more in the sub-post office network to ensure that there are proper numbers of sub-post offices remaining open so as to continue to serve local urban communities.
