LABOUR STUDENTS' CAMPAIGN ON THE DEVELOPING WORLD

EDM number 569 in 2002-03, proposed by Tom Watson on 23/01/2003.

That this House welcomes the Labour students campaign, 'Justice for the developing world'; notes that the UK Government has taken a leading role internationally in reducing the burden of debt on some of the world's poorest countries, including Uganda, Bolivia, Mozambique and Tanzania and that by 2005-06 overseas aid spending will have grown to ú4.9 billion a year; recognises that thousands of students in universities and colleges across the country have already signed up to the campaign's aims; and supports their calls for fair trade reforms, faster debt relief for the developing world, a commitment by the Government to reach the UN target of spending 0.7 per cent. of national income on aid spending in the next Parliament, and a $100 billion a year global fund to reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs.
