Increases In Council Tax

EDM number 493 in 2002-03, proposed by David Davis on 13/01/2003.

That this House condemns the Government's burden on local authorities that has seen the average Band D council tax in England soar by nearly ú300 to ú976; notes that in 2002 council tax rose by 8.3 per cent. across England, in cash terms, the biggest ever increase in the history of council tax; and further notes that the average Band D council tax bill will rise to over ú1,000 for the first time this year, as predicted in the most recent Pre-Budget Report.

This motion has been signed by a total of 75 MPs.
