Uprating Of 25p Age Addition
EDM number 438 in 2002-03, proposed by Alan Simpson on 18/12/2002.
That this House notes the existing age addition payment to the state pension of 25 pence a week on reaching the age of 80; accepts the widespread evidence that shows that the oldest pensioners tend to be among the poorest in society; acknowledges that the vast majority of those pensioners will be women; believes that after 30 years the age addition is now due for a substantial increase; and supports the National Pensioners Convention in calling on the Government to raise this age addition to ú22 a week for all pensioners over 80 as a matter of urgency.
