Food Miles And Farmers Markets

That this House agrees with the Annual Conference of the National Council of Women in Great Britain held in Birmingham who expressed their concern about the effect upon the environment of the scale of the international transportation of foodstuffs whilst local supermarkets held little locally grown or produced stock; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government urgently to fund the promotion of local farmers markets and other outlets which sell local produce.
