Firefighters Dispute

EDM number 360 in 2002-03, proposed by John McDonnell on 12/12/2002.

That this House applauds the Fire Brigades Union in its attempt to resolve the current dispute by negotiation via ACAS; welcomes its decision to postpone its planned industrial action; hopes that the Fire Service employers and Government will reciprocate to enable a resolution of this dispute based upon a decent pay offer and without resorting to cuts in firefighter jobs or cuts in services; and urges the Government not to use the detailed Bain report proposals as the basis of cuts in jobs and services which will ultimately put lives at risk.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
